As makers of bespoke fitted wardrobes, we are often asked the difference between custom fitted wardrobes and pre-stock standard wardrobes or “semi bespoke” items. The simple answer is it’s all in the fit and fitting.
Bespoke fitted items can make a huge difference on the display and overall look of the piece. The main difference is all our bespoke fitted wardrobes are made to order. This enables us to have very small margins when fitting to the side walls, ceilings etc. Any door sizes are not limited to a 2.2 meters height like standard pre-made items. This means that in a prefabricated item the wardrobe will often stop up to 30cm short of the ceiling. This means an unsightly panel scribed into the ceiling as the only solution.
The margins can be relatively small in some cases but small things makes big differences with bespoke fitted wardrobes. It’s worth remembering these are things that can be overcome with the more standard type of wardrobe offering and having things fit like “glass” to the edges of your home its not essential. It will however in all cases cost more to provide a complete tailored solution.
In terms of price the options can vary wildly depending on what you are trying to achieve. If you are making bespoke doors above 2.5 meters in height the price will increase sharply due to the size and weight needed for the doors design. The form for your wardrobe is also a factor on cost so curved details will force high costs again.
Bespoke wow factor
If you do live in an average ceiling height property and costs are a factor then perhaps a more standard “of the peg” wardrobe is in order. If, however, you are working in a unique space and want the wow factor and have the budget then there is no substitute for a beautiful bespoke custom fitted wardrobe.
