Built In Furniture Review from Mr. Colm McCarthy, Knightsbridge, London
“Wyndham Design was commissioned to design and install prominent built-in furniture in the living room and master bedroom of my Knightsbridge mews house. The house had been recently restored with updated electrics, plumbing and flooring and retained an original featured living room.
The brief was to create a modern interpretation of object d’art display spaces each side of the 140 year old fire place but capable of hiding a modern tv unit and storage. As the space also covered a wall that contained air conditioning vents, the piece could not disturb the air con functioning and effectiveness. The request was for the piece to look modern but not out of place, be attractive and clean, yet functional. Of the 3 to 4 designers that viewed the property and gave ideas, Richard Thomas of Wyndham was the individual who clearly understood the objectives off the block and immediately sketched interesting ideas and solutions on the spot. The follow-up drawings were compelling and won the job. Subsequent innovative ideas including a hidden electric tv lift and integrated aircon ducting made the finished design a really attractive feature to the room, but not overpowering a traditional setting.
In the master bedroom they designed an impressive hidden tv wall unit with integrated storage and seating. Again a large piece of furniture in keeping with a traditional space with vaulted ceilings, modern yet in harmony.
Follow-up meetings and exchanges were always efficient and practical. The installation was excellent, drama free and very professional. The quality of finishes, installation detailing and mechanics are top quality.
In summary, an excellent experience with design, construction, installation and consultation at every stage. As I was living in Singapore with infrequent visits during the entire process the dependability and professional of the Wyndham service and product was a real comfort.
I would have no hesitation using Wyndham again or recommending them for any important built in furniture commissions.”
